Jungle Buddies hosted a birding trail at Matheran on 27-11-22,

5 enthusiastic birders and a young gun joined us for the tour

An Indian paradise flycatcher welcomed us as we started to explore the area as soon as the early sunlight started to penetrate the forest canopy bird activity picked up.

It was leaf warblers galore as we spotted and observed green warblers, greenish warblers, sulphur-bellied warblers, Hume’s leaf warbler, western crowned leaf warblers and Tytler’s leaf warblers. Blyth’s reed warbler was too seen busy in the hunt for its food. Crimson-backed sunbird displayed their vibrant plumage as males were seen busy chasing females.
Soon a shikra juv was observed quenching its thirst at a nearby water source which an observed again in a failed attempt to hunt a white-throated kingfisher.
Later as the temperature picked up Verditer flycatchers started to make their appearance and multiple individuals were observed displaying their deep turquoise color, two individuals were seen taking a dip in the stream of water to beat the heat for a good 10 mins which was the highlight of the day.
The Malabar giant squirrel was observed at multiple junctures during the tour feeding on the forest canopy.

The tour ended with photographing a pair of Grey-headed canary flycatchers and lots of great memories for all of us.
