Birding in Tansa Wildlife Sanctuary

Last weekend, Jungle Buddies hosted two forest walks at the famous Tansa Wildlife Sanctuary. A private tour was held on Saturday for a traveller from Australia and a group tour for the Jungle Buddies community members. The weather in the morning and late evening was pleasant and at times cold, while the late morning and afternoons were super hot, affecting the overall bird sightings in the sanctuary. However, Forest Owlet was spotted and photographed by our lucky travellers on both days. Jungle Owlet’s activities were also seen and photographed multiple times throughout the two days. While the skies were full of Alpine swifts, Crested Treeswifts, Eurasian crag martins, Little Swifts, Asian Palm swift and Barn swallows, there was no activity of the Trogon species. Flycatchers and Warblers were quite active and vocal, as well as residents like Racket-tailed drongo, Yellow-footed green pigeon, Maratha woodpecker, Rufous woodpecker, and many more. During the drive from Khardi to Tansa, good raptor activity was observed in peak afternoon hours, with multiple sightings of White-eyed buzzards, Booted eagles, Short-toed snake eagles, Greater spotted, and Indian Spotted eagles. Buntings and chats were also spotted in farmlands en route to Tansa. Overall, it was a fruitful weekend for Jungle Buddies Tours and our travellers. the Trogon activity was nil.
