Kachore Hills Free Bird Watching Tour

Jungle Buddies Tours recently hosted a successful free bird-watching tour at the renowned Kachore Hills in Thakurli East. This walk was part of our monthly free bird walks organized by Birds of Thane and Raigad district, a Facebook community. This long-running initiative, spanning over 10 years, aims to promote birding and conservation in the region.

Ten enthusiastic participants joined our exploration, witnessing a delightful variety of birdlife that Kachore Hills has to offer. We were lucky to observe a lone Blue Rock Thrush and a female Black Redstart, both are winter visitors to Kachore Hills.

The tour also offered encounters with resident species like the Black Drongo, Ashy Prinia, and Plain Prinia. A large flock of Rosy Starlings added a vibrant touch, potentially marking their early arrival for the winter.

Beyond birding, the tour delved into insightful topics. We emphasized the importance of observing and photographing birds near your home, aiding in the identification of rarities encountered later. We also discussed the intriguing seasonal movement of Brown Rockchats, which migrate to Kachore Hills despite being resident in most parts of India. Additionally, we explored the diverse subspecies of Peregrine Falcons across the globe, highlighting the three found in India.

This free bird-watching tour at Kachore Hills proved to be a delightful experience for both participants and our team. We enjoyed sharing our passion for birdlife and fostering awareness about local avian communities.

A big thank you to all the participants for joining us and contributing to the tour’s success!
