Barvi Forest Birdwatching Tour with Jungle Buddies

As the summer sun warms Maharashtra, the Barvi Dam forest near Badlapur transforms into a lush retreat for bird lovers. On April 27th, Jungle Buddies Tours hosted a special birdwatching trip to this tropical deciduous forest, continuing our beloved summer tradition. Known for its rich biodiversity and scenic trails, Barvi Forest once again proved to be the perfect setting for an early morning birding adventure.

Though the forest appeared quieter than usual, the crisp calls of cicadas filled the air, creating a calming soundscape. One of the day’s most delightful moments came from a curious Jungle Owlet, which entertained our group with playful hide-and-seek behavior—flying just out of view and then reappearing with its distinctive call. Participants were thrilled to capture this endearing bird in both memory and photographs.

Throughout the walk, sightings of Large Cuckooshrikes and Racket-tailed Drongos kept spirits high. Birdwatchers were also rewarded with views of a striking Black-hooded Oriole and a shy Golden-fronted Leafbird well-hidden among the foliage. The presence of small beauties like the Common Tailorbird, Vigors’s Sunbird, Purple Sunbird, and Yellow-throated Sparrow added colour and life to the morning.

Spotted Doves, Jungle Babblers, Yellow-footed Green Pigeons, and several busy Common Mynas building nests offered glimpses into forest life in motion. The echoes of Indian Koels, Drongos, and Flamebacks made the forest feel alive at every step.

The Barvi Forest tour offered a peaceful, refreshing start to the day, reminding us why birding in Maharashtra’s forests is such a treasured experience.
