On the bank of River Ulhas in Mumbai Metropolitan region lies the satellite city of Kalyan and Dombivli. Due to its geographical location, some of the best bird-watching hotspots of MMR are located in Kalyan Dombivli area. Surrounded by River Ulhas on one side and Haji Malang – Parsik hills mountain ranges on the other, the city of Kalyan Dombivli is just a perfect getaway for first-time bird watchers.

Target species expected : Since there is a wide variety of microhabitats like wetland of Dombivli west and Nilje Lake, scrublands of Bhopar and Umberli plateau and forest habitats of Padle and Shilphata, we would be covering the best hotspots where chances of sighting birds would be higher in wetlands we would be expecting various migratory shorebirds like sandpipers, godwits, Redshanks, Ruff, Plovers, snipes, ducks, storks and egrets. Scrublands are the best places to learn about larks, pipits, wagtails, prinias and munias as they are plenty in numbers and are highly camouflaged Similarly, the lush green forest habitat of Padle is the best place to watch passerine birds like flycatchers, robins, thrushes and sunbirds. If you are someone who enjoys raptor watching, then the scrublands around mountain ranges are just perfect; Steppe Eagles, Spotted Eagles, Imperial Eagles, falcons and small accipiters species.
