Description
Discover the Hidden Micro-World
While most tourists visit Matheran for its sweeping panoramic viewpoints, the true magic of this vehicle-free eco-sensitive zone lies closer to the ground. As the season transitions, the dense, shaded canopy and leaf litter of Matheran become a thriving habitat for the forest’s “lesser fauna”—an incredible array of reptiles, amphibians, and arachnids.
Join us for a specialised, highly focused dusk trail dedicated entirely to the often-overlooked marvels of the forest. Led by Jungle Buddies Mentor Yogesh Patel, this is a thrilling opportunity to observe and photograph Matheran’s hidden nocturnal and crepuscular wildlife in their natural habitat.
The Experience: Stealth, Safety, and Macro Photography
To ensure the safety of both the wildlife and our participants, this exclusive trail is strictly limited to a Group of 5 + 1 Expert Mentor. Navigating the quiet, dark trails requires stealth, patience, and a keen eye. Yogesh will teach you how to ethically track, observe, and photograph these delicate creatures without disturbing them, offering a masterclass in macro photography and field herpetology.
Target Species (The Micro Jewels)
Matheran’s undergrowth is rich with endemic and fascinating species, offering a thrilling experience for macro photographers and nature enthusiasts. As we carefully navigate the shaded trails, we will be keeping our eyes peeled for a variety of reptiles, amphibians, and arachnids. Green Vine Snake, Common Cat snake, Travancore Wolf snake, Bamboo pit viper, Night frog, Deccan banded gecko, Rock gecko, and Tarantula are some of the micro jewels we expect to encounter during our exploration.
