Matheran Hills (Lesser Fauna)

Matheran is a hill station near Karjat in the Raigad district, the nearest railhead being Neral on the CSMT-Karjat line. Matheran is one of the smallest hill stations in India and the only automobile-free hill station in Asia. It is located on the Western Ghats range at an elevation of around 2,625 feet above sea level.

Target species expected: Green Vine Snake, Common Cat snake, Travancore Wolf snake, Bamboo pit viper, Night frog, Decanded banded gecko, Rock gecko and Tarantula.

  • Walking trail in Matheran Hills

PS – The lesser fauna trail requires a good amount of walking on the Matheran hill.

The suggested travel mode to Matheran will be the Local Train

Local Train Suggestion – Central Railway – Station – Neral (CSMT > 4.30 PM to Neral > 6.08 PM>Karjat 6.24 PM)

Just outside the station, take a shared Taxi to the Matheran Entry Point.
