In Search of Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher at Karnala Bird Sanctuary l July 2023

Trip Report

On 23rd July we set out to spot the elusive Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher in the ever-captivating forests of Karnala Bird Sanctuary, and although we only heard its calls, the journey was nothing short of amazing!

Along the way, we were treated to mesmerizing sights of a courting pair of Greater Coucals, dazzling Bronzed and Racket-tailed Drongos, the charming Rufous Treepie, and the adorable Brown-capped Pygmy Woodpecker.

As if that wasn’t exciting enough, we stumbled upon a fascinating pair of fishing spiders floating gracefully on the water, right along the walking trail! Nature never ceases to amaze.

Exploring different areas and following the enchanting streams, we remained hopeful and committed to our quest for the elusive kingfisher. Although it remained shy and elusive, our hearts were filled with joy and wonder at the beauty of the forest.

Jungle Buddies Tours stayed true to its motto of providing an immersive experience in the wilderness, showcasing the incredible biodiversity and avian wonders of Karnala.

A big thank you to our fantastic and inquisitive travellers who were so enthusiastic, making this journey unforgettable. We can’t wait for our next adventure! 🌄🔭
