Description
About the Site: Tucked away in the bustling suburb of Thane lies one of Mumbai’s best-kept secrets: Chena Nature Trail, named after the Chena River, which flows through Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) and serves as a vital green lung for the city and a premier hub for nature education and wildlife photography.
Habitat: The terrain here is a beautiful, undisturbed patch of mixed deciduous forest. As you walk the designated nature trails, you will experience a dense canopy, thick undergrowth, rocky outcrops, and small seasonal waterholes that act as magnets for local wildlife.
What to Expect (The Wildlife): Because it is part of SGNP, the birding here is spectacular for woodland species!
-
Target Birds: Keep your cameras ready for the Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher, the seasonal speciality, Tickell’s Blue Flycatcher, Rufous Woodpeckers, Sunbirds, and other lesser fauna.
-
Other Wildlife: It is very common to spot Barking Deer, Spotted Deer, Macaques, and a wide variety of butterflies and reptiles.
